Good morning,

School Social Workers Week: National School Social Work Week is marked every first full week of March to celebrate school social workers across the nation and appreciate their work in helping students achieve academic success. Did you know social work began in U.S. schools over 110 years ago by visiting teachers? School social workers are professionals within the social work field that work with teachers, parents, and school administrators. They help students deal with mental health and behavioral challenges and provide academic and classroom support. They also help in developing education policies, work with crisis interventions, and identify and report child neglect and abuse. THANK YOU TO OUR SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKERS!

Rep List: I am attaching the REA Rep List for this school year. For our new members, these are your “go to” people in your building. Thank you Reps for all you do!Rep Council

Community Engagement: REA will be holding our next community engagement activity by donating to the Helping Hands Wall at FatBoyz pizzeria at 12th and Spring. A $2 donation will allow a student to receive a slice of pizza. REA will do a donor match up to $700. Donations may be given to your REA building rep between 3/11/22 and 3/25/22. For more information about Fat Boyz and the Helping Hands wall, please check out this article: https://www.readingeagle.com/2022/02/03/fatboyz-pizza-sandwiches-helping-hands/

ESSERs Funding: The American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act allocated $5 billion to the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund for use by local education agencies (LEAs). Reading received $104,628,965. A requirement of accessing these funds is to gather input from key stakeholders. This summer a survey went out from the district with a very small response (431 individuals comprised of employees/community members/etc.) Given the unprecedented amount of funds the district received, we feel that as stakeholders more input is needed from REA. There are guidelines on how the money must be spent and it does sunset (limited amount of one time use). Please take some time to fill out the survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdwvowcC7Ho49EgGd-IFZ4C7qIRG5Frj1PUNAnL7xf30lxjSw/viewform?usp=sf_link

Be Well,
