Good Afternoon,
By now I am sure you have read your district email in regards to Covid-19. Let me start by saying last night the President of The United States announced that the World Health Organization had declared Covid-19 as a pandemic. https://www.who.int/influenza/resources/documents/pandemic_phase_descriptions_and_actions.pdf
This morning an emergency meeting was called with all bargaining unit Presidents and the Central Administration cabinet. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss preventative measures that could be taken as a district. We came TOGETHER as all bargaining units to look at the seriousness of what we are facing and how we could work as one. ALL bargaining units agreed that this needs to be an “All hands on deck” measure and that some bargaining units will give up work while others will take on work.
Starting tomorrow the Teamsters and the SSOs will be in buildings to do “Deep” cleanings. This will consists of all large surface areas such as floors, counter tops, bathrooms, etc. What YOU are being asked to do on Monday is to wipe down the desks, chairs, and manipulatives that your students work with. ALL supplies will be provided to you. You are NOT being asked to do the custodians job for them. It is possible with 26 buildings outside agencies will need to be called in to assist with this task.
In addition to the cleaning of the buildings the district is working on providing supplies either to each teacher or stations throughout buildings to help prevent the spread of germs when we return.
I am sure there are a million “What If” questions that you have. At this point in time we are working with the information that we have. As always, if something changes I will communicate that to the membership. I will not however answer hypotheticals.
Thank you,
Rebecca
