Hello,
Through your district email you should have received an email from Kristin Boyd explaining the district’s re-opening plan. There are a few things I’d like to explain in regards to that plan.
First, per PDE guidelines every district needed to create a plan that allowed for in person instruction, hybrid instruction, and complete remote learning. Additionally, they needed to create a health and safety plan. As the email stated, a special meeting of the Board will be held on August 5th where they will vote on what option they feel is best.
In my opinion, after speaking with Dr. Mumin after the Union leadership meeting, I strongly believe the administration will recommend either the scaffolded plan or the complete remote learning. I truly do not believe in good conscience the district would bring the staff and students back for face to face learning. At the end of the day though, the board will make the decision.
For the health and safety plan, there are measures in place for our high risk staff and students. Jesse Leisawitz, RSD compliance officer, stated we will look at those individuals on a case by case basis and treat their circumstance much like we treat ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) cases. Several of you have contacted me with concerns as you or a family fall in to that high risk category. I ask that you wait until the board votes on a plan and then we can more accurately look at your options.
When I had sent out the survey asking for your opinions on re-opening, I had stated about a possible virtual General Membership meeting. I do not yet have a date, however it will not be before the board votes. So we will most likely be looking at the week of August 10th.
As always, please feel free to contact your reps/officers/myself with questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Rebecca
